Description

Why did I paint a crowded cluster of single blossoms? In the repeated quietness of 2020 eclipsed by the Corona Virus Pandemic, I anticipated containment and confinement waiting like phantoms to consume my life. In the midst of isolation that filled my days quest for occupation turned into a mission for comfort, for an encouraging sign in the midst of uncertainty. It was against this sense of vulnerability that I wound up painting on a 34” by 34” canvas of all the flowers I could remember. The uncommon shape of the canvas reflects the changes we were about to face. With each brushstroke I captured the quintessence of the blossoms, their dynamic tense and highlights a distinct difference to the muffled tones of our lives. Starting with a dim green undercoat representative of the shadows cast by the pandemic, I meticulously painted each flower as I could remember it. However, as the months extended into more isolation, I came to the realization that my memory had dulled, bringing about a few deformed blossoms. As opposed to amending these blemishes, I decided to embrace them as powerful tokens of difficulties we survived. This craftmanship remains a demonstration of the strength of the human soul, an image of trust and recharging for a brighter future.
